What is Happening?

In my last post about this, I mentioned using Capacitorjs to create an app version of the site. Over the Christmas holidays, I spent some time moving from Windows over to Linux, that came with its own challenges, but I am glad I have switched over. That does mean that everything is new and I am still getting to grips with somethings around it.

That includes setting up development environments. I just could not get Capacitorjs working for love nor money. I am a web developer, not an app developer and everything I was trying was just resulting in more and more errors and issues.

But There is Light!

Even though the site is written with a Svelte front end, at work I continue to use Vue as front end frameworks for some of the sites. This means that I do have another avenue I have been able to explore. Vue-Native. Is it ideal? Nah, not really. I have to maintain 2 different frameworks for the 2 projects, but does this mean I can continue to explore the app? Fuck yea it does.

So I guess the question is, how far have I got with that?

Not far at all… I have managed to get an app running on my phone and that is it.

But Why The Slow Progress?

I am really at a roadblock with my head and passion to push things forward. I still really want to get this site working and it might still take a long time to get running properly, but I don’t know where to push it forward. I am still fighting the notion of building an app because I am not sure if that will be sufficient to capture the audience. There are holes that need filling, but I don’t know how to fill them. I need an audience to help guide.

On top of that, getting into the TTRPG scene and playing Call of Cthulhu has sparked imagination and ideas around that. I started a new site that revolves around TTRPG world building. I know there are other services out there people use, some paid some DIY, but I am hoping the approach I am taking with this might be appealing and I think if it is going to work, then it will have a better uptake than FYP, which I can also use to then cross market.

I will keep details of that one under my hat for the time being. It started out as a test for a couple of ideas I had in the shower and it sort of took over the brain.

What Do I Think Is Missing?

I think having some kind of event management and advertisement is going to be a key component, but then there is that thing of no audience to worth the effort on event planners parts. It is tough, it would be great to get a partner company to help with this, I did get contacted by Element Games here in the UK, I got an email from them but no follow up after I replied. Very disappointing, they would have been quite a powerful one to work with.

I looked back at Vox Link, which was advertised as a way to connect with other gamers, but not sure what it is doing for itself right now. I would like to comb through the KickStarter for that project again and list things it has and I could use. Big missed opportunity for sure as it seems most of the things they had as features either didn’t appear or was so basic it isn’t usable. They earned a little bag from the KickStarter though, $25k but their reach was vast. That is part of the reason I want to try and get a KickStarter project up. For the advertisement, the money is a secondary.

What Could I Offer As Rewards On KickStarter?

So the initial idea would be for early access as a base $2 or something, something small to get people invested. Then add a couple of other tiers for those who want to be a little more involved, access to a Discord channel for ideas or something. It would be good to have one for shop/club owners, get their ideas on what could help and what they would want from it. Give them a 6 month premium membership for percs, or lifetime. Dunno, Vox Link had one for “Get verified to organize events, valued at $20. Retailers and Tournament Organizers Only.” which would be similar to what I have.

Outside of that, I am not sure what else to offer… I have thought about branded clothing or something, I got my sister to make some T-Shirts for when we went to Salute last year which were branded, I had my name put on mine, so I could offer a customized branded T-Shirt like that. Something light and easy to make, cheap to ship.

So that is that really. I am a bit disappointed in myself I didn’t manage to get anything done app side, but that is life, I was enjoying my break from work.

Much Love <3
